Before we get to that let me share something with you that is VERY personal. As I sit here writing this, my mind is taken back to when I first started to get involved in humanitarian work. I was selected to be a youth ambassador for World Vision and at the ripe young age of 17 and I was flown out to Tanzania during my summer break.


As the plane touched down and I stepped out into the hot summer sun, my life was about to be forever changed. I mean I had seen poverty before on TV, I had read about it… But to stare poverty in the face and to hold the hand of a child who had nothing, rocked me to the core. I felt hopeless… What could I even do? What difference could I make?  The life-changing moment though was about to happen…


You see I took with me our family video camera. I mean I could barely use it! But I clumsily turned it on and with sweaty hands pointed it in the general direction of the beautiful African people the very course of my life was about to change. 


I knew that if I could take these stories to the right people, then I could help them… So I did. 


When I got back home I spoke in schools across the country and on national TV. The video I captured in Africa I took back to my home country and encouraged thousands to give to these people in need.


You know, not much has changed in my life since then. My latest project AutoImmune Secrets, is the culmination of my life work as a documentary filmmaker.
