Taken from my true stories of my life:

I was eight years old trying to save a three year old's life!!!!!! I DID but in doing so

I fell into a deep hole full of cold water in an under ground CAVE :(

All I could see was the stars in the DARK sky over head!

Only the loved ones in Heaven came to help me!

They tossed down a tiny berry vine to me!

I did not know they grew that long?

 A life line of thorn's but they also cut into my hands

to keep me from sliding back down into my possible GRAVE!


My pet dog Sandy went for help but no one listened to her:(

 I knew how to tread water but how long could I keep doing it before I drowned?


I had gathered all the White Lillies  we had picked into my arms

when I tried to jump over the large hole

and they helped me float with my dress skirt over them

in that cold dirty water full of decaying leaves.

The leaves left imprints on my once pretty yellow dress.




Yes, A sad Story about my dog Sandy:(

When I was eight years old.......

She only tried to get help to save my life

when I fell into a deep water filled cave!

For my dad To punish me........... she lost her life instead:(


I remember dad coming in late at night covered in dirt

from filling the cave shut,  the next few days

and then just the one day after, walking to school with Eddie

and his asking  me questions, but I never remember arriving at school!


My mind closed down for months to block it all out

and I did not remember again until I started writing Short stories as an older adult

when My mind opened like a book of that time period.

The minds files opened wide !

How I saw my father that day with different eyes, he was no longer my Hero

It was unfair to Sandy to let her think it was all her fault:(

She crawled on her belly into that gunny sack.

He threw rocks in with her and tied it shut with the rope!

 I was screaming No, No, No !!!!!!

It was not her fault !!!!!!

Would I jump back into that cave well

to save my dog, tied in a gunny sack ?

I stood close to the edge, it was no where in sight

it had gone under water

and knowing the tiny berry vine was no longer there to help save us both?? 

The thought flashed that I was strong enough

that I could knock my dad back wards into that well

but of course I did not act on that thought.



I was Not the same as he had acted, in his fear of what almost happened :(

Anger is a fear and his twisted rules gave me no choice, as he would punish me if

Eddies little  brother got lost or hurt. Or even if Eddie was lost or hurt!


I ran away as fast as I could, like a 'little running deer' they called me!

  As yes, I was a very fast runner ,

The older women said I ran as fast as a little running deer .......

But this time I ended up into the darkness of my mind.


Now I was led around and seated on a wooden chair in the middle of a room,
as the adults worked at their daily chores around me,
my really not seeing them at first :( 


Until an older healer a Grandson of a Great Indian Chief
prayed for me and I came back to the living!

As he sat in a chair against the wall, his body bent forward watching my face.

I was at his daughters house that day, dad was moving us into their honey house.

So they  all could  help him with me during the day.

So I learned later.



The last School year had ended without me!

Summer had past!

Now  School had started again but without me once again!


  Yes, That is what I first saw, the healer

his eyes of concern looking deeply into mine!



My mind restarted but without the darkness,

those files were closed for years to come.

A  Sample:……………..

In slow motion I saw Eddie, Rob and Sandy watching me from the road across the

field, as I fell out of sight into a dark hole.


Down, down I went my dress ballooned around me,

All the flowers in my arms.

I hit the water; went under and bobbed up, oh it was so cold.

I started treading and kicking out to the sides hoping I could walk up the walls with my back braced against one side.


Nothing,


it was like a dark cave,

oh what was I to do,


I heard Sandy barking,

Rob screaming for Eddie.

So I joined in yelling help, help, help!

 Then go get my dad, go get me someone, please!

Sandy stopped barking but I still could heard Rob.




I looked to the top at the sky. Being so deep under ground

I could only see the stars in the dark sky!



Then I thought of the older women who told me my mother was  up in the sky in heaven and she was watching me and  she would always help me.

Well, this is a good time to find out,  please help me.


Over and over I called, tears running down my face.




I was getting tired from kicking my legs

and then I saw something hanging above me

I kicked and stretched my arm up and caught it.

Ouch thorns,

it was a little wild black berry vine that grew in that area!


I gripped it and then kicked and got my other hand above the first
and did hand over hand.

The top was getting closer and closer

I could feel dirt falling on me it had a musty smell.

Finally I was at the top!

I swung my leg to try and get it over the edge but the earth kept giving way,

so I kept doing hand over hand until I was lying on top.


I wiggled safely away from the edge and sat up,

just then the vine came loose from the soft earth and moss.

It had a tiny short root,

I felt in the earth trying to find more of it but there was nothing.





I started sobbing and looked up into the sky and said thank you.


(I loved the wild black berries after that.)




After having a good cry

I got up and walk across the field to little sobbing Robbie  and took his hand.

‘Lets go home Robbie it is okay now!’





As we walked down the old dirt road

Sandy was on her way up the hill.

She stopped, looked, barked and started running,


She was all over me licking my dirty face talking to me as I knelt to hug her,

and oh she was so happy!


She skipped ahead of us or maybe that was a dance?



Dad said she kept coming and barking at him,

as he raked leaves and talked with Eddie

who had said nothing of what happened

and Sandy was going back up the road turning to look at dad.

But he did not know what was wrong with her!




 Sandy had gone for help, trying to save my life!

Sandy was very loyal to me

and I loved her very much.

She was a long haired Hines mix

but still a great dog for an 8- year-old………..




After I got a beating with a metal belt buckle and no supper.

I would have been beaten even if I had not saved Robbie anyway.

What ever friends did on my watch, I was blamed for it

that’s why I went off the road after them!




With no thought of Eddie leading us straight to the abandoned water well.

The next day after so many visits to hear my story

with hugs and smiles everyone so happy I was alive.

My dad coldly watched me smile back at the adults, thanking them.

He was so angry!

I had disobeyed him by going off the main path /road!

Because there was an  abandoned old well  some where in those woods

and no one knew where it was!





Dad then wanted me to show him the well.

He gathered a gunny sack and  some rope?

My dad drowned Sandy in in that gunny sack

right in front of me in that well !


As I screamed

“No Stop it was not her fault!”

just because I went off the road to save Robbie

and our being trapped by dead cedar branches points catching our clothes,

they were covered in dirt in a half ring around the well,

we could not return the way we crawled into the trap,

the only way out was over the hole in the ground?

that we saw Eddie jump over.



I threw 3 year old Robbie over to safety

but when I did my short space of a run and jump,

my foot landed on the soft soil at the edge on the other side

  and it caved away

as I fell into the well.


I was a tiny thin girl but the soil was just too soft there.




All the Lilies  I gathered in my arms so as not to waste them

had helped me float



but ended up surrounding Sandy in her watery grave.

from Eddie for his Mom,

That he ended up throwing on the ground

he really had gathered for us,

if I had only known


I would not have lost my friend Sandy.




Good-bye Sandy,

know you were loved

and I miss you.
